Conversations With UT Students

We've done several community conversations with student groups lately. We helped students share good and bad experiences at a mediation event recently. Keep it up!

I dream of student led responses to help homeless in Austin. That would be awesome (although I recommend learning through organizations that already serve the homeless for 18 months or so, so you learn quickly before leading your own efforts).

I have noticed a recurring and encouraging pattern by UT students. It is true that many students have some type of negative encounters with homelessness in Austin. That's a shame, but it's undeniably true right now. And I'm glad people are sharing this information and sharing their feelings about this with one another.

However, the response by so many students, after a negative encounter, is to try to learn more, to volunteer, and to put human faces onto the homeless situation. This builds healthy compassion! It's so awesome to watch! Also, consider volunteering next semester!
